Pakistan Population Stands at 156.77 Million During 2006-07

In the article “Pakistan Population Stands at 156.77 Million During 2006-07”, the author claims that in the past fifty years, the population of Pakistan has spurted in growth from 32.5 million to 156.77 million, or increased its growth rate by 2.6 percent per year on average. Extensive population of Pakistan has more opportunities to attract external investment that may bring lots of benefits to its labor force. This article also claims that Pakistan has three stages of population transitions, from the past fifty years until the next fifty years. In the first stage, both fertility rate and mortality rate are increasing. In the second stage, both fertility rate and mortality rate are decreasing. In the third stage, fertility rate may become lower and old age-mortality decreases. It says that different generations will change the age structure of the population in Pakistan.

The government has to care for the country’s population age structure of population transition. There are three reasons that prove the advantages of a large population. A large population will contribute to the economy, human resources and investment.

First, a large population will help economic growth because it is the most important element to encourage economic growth. However, the government can collect more tax revenue from economy growth to develop country. Moreover, government could be able to develop medical technology for people from economic growth. Also, economic growth also can provide people have an opportunity to receive education.

Second, a large population will bring more human resources. The human resources have lots of benefits for society. For example, people have more job opportunities in hand-made factories because hand-made products are more valuable than machine-made products. Most factories could have high quality products because the owner of the factory can easily hire employees to check products. Large human resources also can increase different kinds of services for people. For example, a company can provide customers the best services in fixing, selling and changing products.

Third, a large population will attract more foreign investment because it can make lots of dividends for investors. For example, a large population equals large consumers who can spend lots of money to buy products. However, more foreign investment could bring new technology for a country, which will develop a country’s industry to increase its economy. Moreover, more foreign investment also can increase their standard of living, because they will make more services available to the residents. Therefore, a large population is the best element to stimulate foreign entrepreneurs to invest.

In conclusion, in my opinion, a large population must have a good economy to support itself, because a good social economy can offer lots of resources for people. For example, education, jobs and medical services….etc, all of which are people’s life needs. However, a good economy can decrease mortality rate, which causes increasing population. Therefore, the large population also is good for developing the economy of countries. There is a good example; China is a developing country, whose the government has a good policy to solve large population problems. The government not only uses manpower to encourage economic advances, but also offers education for people.
